The book of Jonah appears in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. The theme of this short 4 chapter book is that God’s sovereign grace pursues rebellious sinners, transforms repentant hearts, and calls His people to share His compassion for the nations. One of the key verses is:
“I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love …”
— Jonah 4:2
The main thought is that Jonah is not the hero of the story – God is. Jonah ultimately points us to Christ, the greater Prophet who willingly obeyed the Father to accomplish salvation.
